the "Great Karoo Gathering" die oorsig

Under the Namibian Sky

Namibian ride report by Altus Pienaar.

Namibia. The name conjures up images of vast open desert spaces, clear blue skies and long stretches of dusty gravel highways disappearing over distant horizons.  The Desert run was coming up over Easter and a commitment needed to made. I needed to turn these images floating around in my head into reality.  I collected the Giant Loop demo bag from the post office the week before the start of the Desert Run. This was going to be the ideal test ground for the Great Basin saddlebag. Time will tell if this product will stood the test of time and some hard riding in the harshest of riding conditions, the open desert.

I left town early on a wet Thursday morning, heading out into the direction of Jagersfontien where I will meet up with Michiel, my riding partner for the next 10 days. From here we will start to follow the dusty trail to where we will meet with the Desert Run group just outside of Kuruman.  We arrived after dark at the ????? lodge and feeling a bit like a stranger in Jerusalem we started looking around for a camping spot when a friendly but sober chap walked over and invited us to come and put up tent right next to his. Anton and his newly acquired KTM 990 proved over the next few days to be very worthy riding companions.
